I didn’t always expect to be a therapist.
As a student at Barnard College in New York City, I majored in psychology while I pursued a career in journalism. After graduating, I moved to Boston to work at the fledgling Boston.com. While reporting on tragedies I noticed my instinct was to want to provide help and healing to the families. I wanted to co-create the narrative with the people directly, not just report on their traumas.
I have worked in clinical practice since 2005 in a variety of settings: community-based crisis centers, hospitals, and in private practice since 2011.
My work reflects my career-long interest in women’s health, sexuality and identity. I was fortunate to be trained in reproductive counseling at the Massachusetts General Hospital’s Fertility Center. I often describe this experience as my own reproductive endocrinology fellowship, where I was introduced to the psychological, medical and ethical dilemmas individuals and couples face in the pursuit of parenthood. In addition to providing consultation and counseling to patients, I frequently led the Fertility Center’s ethics board meetings, where we explored and debated regular ethical dilemmas faced in a medical setting.
I have been in private practice since 2011. I am a member in good standing of the Mental Health Professional Group of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the National Association Social Workers and American Academy of Psychotherapists.
