INFERTILITY COUNSELING

I became a therapist who specializes in reproductive medicine by accident. What started as a temporary coverage in the MGH Fertility Center turned into a permanent placement. What I learned, what was that all of my experience in providing counseling for trauma survivors, sitting with families facing the end of life of a loved one, and the Issues I helped women explore in the gynecology clinic (relationships, sexual functioning, and miscarriage) was combined in this one specialty.

I view infertility through the lens of grief and bereavement. People can experience a multitude of different losses in the experience of infertility and treatment. Some of these losses are concrete, some existential. In our work together, we might consider how these losses are informed through your previous experiences and relationships. Many people with whom I work want to find ways to survive and adapt during their season of uncertainty, and to discover ways to cope with whatever is to come.
